A major virus has hit Borderlands 2, and Gearbox is rushing to get the game fixed before more damage can be done. The so-called "Graveyard" virus was born from a hack that forces those affected to play in hardcore mode. Once the player's character dies, they stay dead and won't respawn, and the save file is replaced. Anyone playing with another person who has the hack enabled online will become unwillingly affected, and could have their characters wiped permanently.
Gearbox's community manager Chris Faylor reached out to the fans on the Borderlands 2 forums, informing everyone that Gearbox has already submitted a patch to Microsoft for certification. "After extensive internal testing, an update to prevent this disruption has been submitted to Microsoft and will be released as soon as possible," Faylor stated. "Until then, concerned Xbox 360 players of Borderlands 2 should consider playing online with trusted individuals in non-public sessions."
Just to be safe, Faylor also advised players on what to do to ensure characters didn't fall prey to this vicious bug. "We also advise that before ceasing play, users always select "Save and Quit" from within the pause menu while their character is alive," said Faylor. "If after the death of their character players find themselves at the main menu of Borderlands 2 instead of respawning in-game, be sure to immediately select "Continue" to resume playing as that character."
The developer has yet to provide a solution to players who have already lost their characters. Borderlands 2 has been affected by multiple bugs since release, but this new attack seems to be the most dangerous of all. Gearbox asked players to report any suspicious play to aid in the investigation.

| From what I've heard the Graveyard.sav virus is permanent. All we can hope for is a prevention fix. |
