| Subject: UK Retail Sales At Their Lowest 'Since Records Began' Sun Aug 05, 2012 5:28 am | |
| Last week marked something of a milestone for the UK games retail sector, with a paltry £8.4 million being rung through the tills at local games emporiums. It's the lowest sales revenue since records began.
It's hardly surprising that retail revenues are so low during the notorious summer lull with a dearth of new releases, but this record low is indicative of an ailing games retail sector in the UK. It's thought that the struggling economy, the end of the console cycle and the increasing prevalence of downloadable content could be to blame.
394,688 games were sold in total last week according to UKIE/GfK Chart-Track data, with SEGA's 2012 London Olympics video game retaining its spot at the top of charts. It's hoped that Christmas will help boost retail sales in the UK with the usual range of blockbuster releases lined up for the lucrative winter period. £320 million in revenue us forecast for Q4.

| It's because there are no decent games being released at the moment.
