Neversoft is working on an unnamed Call of Duty title.
Confirmation comes via the studio’s website, which is currently advertising for staff to join its CoD team. Among the roles available are single-player and multiplayer level designers, as well as concept artists and animators.
The splash page says, “We have molded our team into a crack squad of eager developers ready to push the First Person Action genre in support of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise.”
It’s not the first time that Neversoft have been linked with the Call of Duty franchise. In September last year, job listings appeared at the studio advertising for AAA FPS developers.
At the same time an ad in Game Developers magazine encouraged applicants to “shoot into the future,” using a font highly reminiscent of Activision’s best-selling franchise.
Exactly what the game is remains unknown, however. The allusions to a future setting suggest that it relates to the Black Ops series, which recently announced a jump to 2025, but that’s far from confirmed.
Whatever the result is, it’s clear that Neversoft are well out of their comfort zone. Best known for creating the Tony Hawk series of skateboarding games, in recent years the studio has concentrated on developing Guitar Hero titles. They've never made an FPS.
It's also interesting to note that both of these franchises have suffered from overexposure in recent years and have dwindled in popularity. Ominous omens, perhaps?
