Capcom "Re-evaluating" On-Disc DLC Policy Empty
PostSubject: Capcom "Re-evaluating" On-Disc DLC Policy   Capcom "Re-evaluating" On-Disc DLC Policy EmptyWed May 16, 2012 7:07 pm

After taking plenty of flack in the past few months for including DLC on retail discs, Capcom has finally said that it is "re-evaluating" its policy.

Most recently Street Fighter x Tekken caused a storm for including 12 additional DLC characters on-disc that cost 1600 MSP to access. Following community complaints the publisher defended itself by saying, "There is effectively no distinction between the DLC being 'locked' behind the disc and available for unlocking at a later date, or being available through a full download at a later date, other than delivery mechanism."

Now, however, it seems they may be set to change their mind,

Speaking on Capcom Unity, Capcom US boss Christian Svensson said, "We would like to assure you that we have been listening to your comments and as such have begun the process of re-evaluating how such additional game content is delivered in the future.”

"As this process has only just commenced in the past month or so, there will be some titles, where development began some time ago and that are scheduled for release in the coming months, for which we are unable to make changes to the way some of their post release content is delivered."

Among those titles is Dragon's Dogma, which due out next week. Apparently some, but not all, of the game’s DLC is included on-disc.

"The decision to include some additional (but not all planned additional) game content for the game on disc was made at the beginning of the game's development cycle as at the time this was determined to be the most efficient way of ensuring certain content was made available," said Svensson.

"Owners of Dragon's Dogma will be able to further their gameplay experience with the release of additional quests, weapons and other items in the months following the game going on sale."

Svensson concluded by saying, "Just wanted people to know in advance the whys, wherefores and where we're going in the future. You are being heard. Thanks."

They should try to save face with Street Fighter X Tekken and give it away half price or even FREE. They have really damaged their image over the on disc DLC in this game. If it had been say 2 characters, they would have gotten away with it....But 12!....Come on Crapcom you need to get real.
