Is Nintendo planning a new Super Mario sequel, or simply protecting its website domains?


Super Mario 4 has been registered as a web domain by Nintendo of America, leading to speculation over future games in the classic platforming series.

Nintendo previously confirmed plans to release a new side-scrolling Super Mario platformer for 3DS some time in the next 12 months - we wouldn't be surprised if it arrived just in time for the lucrative festive period.

The last numbered Super Mario sequel was on the NES - 1988's Super Mario 3 - which than followed by Super Mario Land on the Gameboy, and Super Mario World on the SNES as well as numerous other spin-offs.
